Design for Development - Composite Building Blocks From Recyclable Materials
Description
LifeCycled Materials is a Non-Profit Organization that is focused on creating infrastructure for
- using recycling to create composite building materials.
- properly compensating waste-pickers & better working conditions
- clearing landfills of recyclable material
In Design for Development class I took as my technical elective during my freshman year of college, we’ve had a chance to collaborate with this organization with a task of refining their system of turning recyclable waste products to composite building blocks. The motivation behind working on using paper and plastic is that the paper fibers provide volume and can strengthen the material while plastic shelters paper from decomposing. I was actively helping with design phase for improving of the drying process and responsible for CAD visualizations.
